We Speak

We speak

We speak on the basis of our people’s minds and decency,

When we speak,

We utter of words in honesty,

When we speak,

Not two matters,

Not three matters,

We speak only one matter:

The TRUTH,

But it becomes laughter in the outside world,

They say it’s the words of foolish people.

               When we speak again…..

               We speak about human rights,

About our rights to our authentic self,

But we are disparaged and disgraced,

              When we speak again,

              Our speech is cast out,

We hold on to the leader’s spoken words,

Even if he says white is black, it will be black,

We will still accept it with open arms.

It is most often that we speak with no emotion,

We speak only superficially,

Only when needed.

When we speak truth about the nation’s history,

We are cast away as black sheep,

When we speak the truth about the nation’s cultural history,

We might be accused of destroying the nation’s cultural history.

               When we speak about rights:

               Rights to be RESPECTED,

               Rights to be KNOWN,

               Rights to VOICE OUT,

               Rights to be LEADERS,

We are accused of being kiasu.

When we speak about our RIGHTS,

We HAVE to speak with transparency,

We HAVE to speak with honesty,

But seldom our expressions of truth are accepted.
